    Will Vox’s new section on effective altruism…well, do any good?

    Ten to 15 European journalism organizations will receive grants from a €1.7m accelerator launched by the European Journalism Center with contributions from cryptocurrency-based journalism marketplace and Jeff Jarvis’s , the EJC . The funding will go to “emerging media organizations with proven user loyalty.” In addition to money (from a €600,000 pool), participants will receive coaching and access to a peer mentorship network. The EJC will also run events and meet-ups across Europe, which will be open to any interested newsrooms.

    Civil is , and grantees will have the option to relaunch on Civil, though they’re not required to. “For those newsrooms that do wish to join Civil, we’ll also offer additional grants of CVL tokens and provide on-boarding support,” Civil cofounder Matt Coolidge .

    “Our goal with the Engaged Journalism Accelerator is to support the emergence of early adopter newsrooms that see journalism as a conversation,” EJC director Adam Thomas . “Through that we believe we will accelerate their progress, and encourage the early majority, late majority, and laggards to listen, learn and accelerate their own evolution.”

    EJC will put out calls for submissions in October 2018 and February 2019; you can sign up for updates .
