    The show’s host, Tilo Jung, says he is spurred on by what he feels is a German mainstream media that only goes through the motions when covering politics and government.
    “I wanted to be able to package various stories in various ways that let them feel and look different from all the regular coverage you might see.”
    The Boston Globe is doing just that, and it seems to be working. It might be the foundation of a sustainable revenue model for local newspapers.
    “I certainly had editors tell me that I shouldn’t be wasting my time on Bird Week. But that was the best part of City Room…We were like unsupervised children.”
    The same trends we saw a decade ago — professionalization on one hand, platformization on the other — sure seem to be playing out again.
    It’s the first time the Times has given its readers the option of following such a large-scale story via email.
